What Is a Domain Nameserver? (ChemiCloud and Namecheap Examples)
In this post, we will explore what a domain nameserver is. Additionally, we will provide the nameserver information for ChemiCloud and NameCheap, and explain how to use ChemiCloud hosting while keeping your nameservers registered with NameCheap.
What is a domain nameserver?
A Domain Name Server (DNS) plays a crucial role in connecting internet domain names with their corresponding IP addresses. Simply put, a nameserver converts the domain name that a user types into their web browser into the correct IP address, directing the user to the right website.
For example, when you enter the domain name ‘wplaybook.com,’ the nameserver translates that domain into the actual IP address of the server, allowing you to access the desired webpage.
It’s similar to how, when you make a phone call on your mobile, you search for your friend’s name instead of remembering their phone number. If an IP address is like a phone number, then the friend’s name is like the domain name.
You can think of a nameserver as the address book on your phone.

At WPlaybook, we think of it like this: instead of remembering the phone number (IP address) to make a call, you search by friend’s name (domain name). The nameserver matches your friend’s name (domain) to the phone number (IP address).
Additionally, nameservers help manage domain settings and distribute web traffic, playing an important role in maintaining a website’s stability and speed.
ChemiCloud nameserver address
ChemiCloud has the following nameserver addresses
ns1.serverhostgroup.com
ns2.serverhostgroup.com
ns3.serverhostgroup.com
NameCheap nameserver address
Namecheap provides both default domain nameserver addresses and hosting-specific nameservers. However, for most cases, you only need to know the default domain nameserver addresses. Namecheap offers two main addresses for this purpose.
Out of the five addresses listed, you only need to enter two.
dns1.registrar-servers.com
dns2.registrar-servers.com
dns3.registrar-servers.com
dns4.registrar-servers.com
dns5.registrar-servers.com
If you purchased your domain through Namecheap, the nameservers are set by default to Namecheap’s BasicDNS. You can think of this as already having the above nameserver information pre-configured.

Using ChemiCloud with Namecheap Nameservers
If you choose not to use ChemiCloud’s nameservers and want to keep Namecheap’s nameservers instead, you just need to set the domain’s A record to point to your ChemiCloud server’s IP address.
